Electronic home appliances brand Siemens introduced their wine coolers in the market in 2003. Their aCool wine cabinet CI24WP01 is the best seller. It boasts of a dual storage zone for both red and white wines. The two independently adjustable temperature zones in this Siemens wine cabinet maintains temperatures from 5°C to 18°C. Further, the glass door of this electronic temperature control system wine cooler is UV-filtered and has room for up to 98 bottles. Ajaz Vakil, GM Sales – Built in Appliances, Siemens India adds that the product category is appreciated by wine lovers and is considered a status symbol amongst consumers. “However, the challenge in such segments is to create a demand for the respective segment,” he says. Siemens Home Appliances operates in the premium segment and caters to the luxury needs of target audience.

Celfrost Innovations is a commercial refrigeration and food-service products specialist but they offer home wine cellar solutions in models which can store 16 wine bottles to 194 bottles. They introduced these solutions in 2005. Ranjeev Sinha, Executive Director, Celfrost Innovations explains that their W72 and W120 (72 bottles and 120 bottles in size) are the best selling models due to its competitive price, excellent look and facility to store both red and white wines in the same cabinet. He adds, “There are a lot of home buyers who contact us to buy these models for their house. This segment of consumer is still learning how to store wine and want to offer best maintained wine to their guests. ” They have five models to choose from, with tinted glass and temperature control between 5°C to 18°C.
W72 costs less than Rs 50,000 while W120 costs less Rs 65,000. They can be purchased from Celfrost Brand Centre at Vikhroli.
KAFF Appliances has six models of chillers on offer for the consumer starting with 16 bottles capacity with single temperature wooden shelves and glass door. They also have models with dual temperature control. These coolers are available in both freestanding and built in models. Manoj More, Regional Manager, West India for KAFF informs that very recently they tied up with Sula Vineyards to provide 250 wine coolers.
The price range starts from Rs 24,000 for a cooler which holds 16 bottles and their company showroom is situated in Evershine Mall, Malad.
Haier also has wine chiller models which start from with 20 bottle capacity. The chillers are inclusive of humidity control- exact temperature and humidity control, 100% CFC and HCFC free for excellent environment protection, cellulor foaming technology. Haier currently has more than 10 models in the category for wine lovers in India.
These are some of the established players in the market; there are others who also have wine storage solutions. The rule of thumb is to buy a chiller with double the capacity of the number of wines you expect to have at a point of time. And while the prices may seem steep, a wine cellar is a good investment to make especially if you find yourself being attracted to more and more wines.
