Quick Post: The Barking Deer Anniversary Special
Mumbai’s first microbrewery turns 3 today! We talked to Greg, The Barking Deer’s owner, to know what it’s been to own a brewpub in Mumbai.
Here are 5 things Greg had to share with everyone about running a microbrewery, and the craft beer scene in Mumbai-
- Hoppy Beers, yes or no?
Indian palates are still more inclined towards Hefeweizens and Witbiers. That said there’s been a noticeable shift over the past couple of years towards more hoppy beers.
The Excise department is as unpredictable as (carbonating with) Brettanomyces. You never know when a Dry Day on a Thursday would be shifted to a Friday!
- More microbreweries
Things are getting much easier in terms of sourcing ingredients with more microbreweries coming up in Mumbai.
- Not just a beer company
powerbeer, comes great responsibility.” With a brewpub, you are not just running a beer company but looking after the entire hospitality aspect.
Manpower wise, things have improved drastically since Greg started The Barking Deer. There are a lot of talented, passionate brewers who want to contribute to the ‘craft beer revolution’. There’s also been a spurt in home brewers and professional brewers who time and again provide valuable feedback on beers.
Today, i.e. 7th of November, The Barking Deer has a special 1+3 deal on their beers.
They’ve brewed a special anniversary beer Hoppy 3, an American Pale Ale featuring 3 American hops – Citra, Simcoe and Columbus!
We wish The Barking Deer a very Happy Anniversary! Cheers to many more years of awesome craft brews!
