Sileni Estates Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand
Sileni is one of our favorite wineries from New Zealand. The winery is based in Hawke’s Bay (New Zealand’s oldest established vineyard area) and last year we visited them and tasted their entire range. Their first vintage was in 1998 and since then they have many accolades under their belt. The Cellar Collection Sauvignon Blanc 2012 is a particular favourite of ours. The wines come from vineyards in Marlborough and is a classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. As always, Marlborough does not disappoint with their Sauvignon Blanc.
Sileni Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2010
Nose: Expressive nose with lots of tropical fruits and a hint of capsicum. Lots of gooseberries, guavas and melons on the nose.
Palate: Like the nose, tropical fruits on the palate as well with lots of lychees, guava followed by some lime and capsicum on the finish. Slight nutty and oak notes on the finish, suggesting the wine might have some amount of barrel fermented grapes.
Crisp and refreshing, the wine makes for a great aperitif. Available in Mumbai for Rs 1797
Apart from the fabulous Sauvignon Blanc, Sileni Estate from Hawke’s Bay also produces excellent red wines including Merlot Cabernet Franc blends, Syrah and Cabernet Franc Rose.
