Grover Zampa and KRSMA win at Decanter World Wine Awards 2015
Another good day for Indian wines with Grover Zampa and KRSMA winning 2 medals and 3 commendations. These are all good wines and there is no surprise seeing them win. Grover Zampa has been consistently winning awards and KRSMA can give any winery in India a run for their money.
The only red wine on the list, at Rs. 1700 is India’s most expensive wine
This year 7059 medals and 3945 commendations were awarded with some very interesting results. From India, 4 of the 5 wines are from Karnataka and are all whites. Zampa’s Chêne Grand Réserve is the only red wine on the list, and at Rs. 1700 is India’s most expensive wine. The Grover Zampa wines available in Maharashtra are usually made in Maharashtra and are different from the ones which have won these awards.
This raises the question of which state makes better wines, Karnataka or Maharashtra. Personally, I prefer red wines from Karnataka, although all wines which have won from Karnataka are whites. There’s only one way to solve this, have a tasting or all major wines from Maharashtra and Karnataka and it’s time we put this in motion. I had the opportunity to taste Grover’s 2013 Viognier straight from the tank and here is a video about that from their winery near Bangalore.
