E’got wines from Gruppo Cevico, Italy
Cooperatives are a great way to show case wines produced by small producers. There aren’t that many cooperative wines available in India, but we see that changing soon. Italian Gruppo Cevico for instance, who have tied up with Aspri Spirits, is a case in point. From the region of Romagna, the 50 year old cooperative has 4500 associated winegrowers cultivating 6700 hectares of vineyards. Around 1.4 million tons of grapes are vinified in 21 winery units; Gruppo Cevico is Italy’s second largest cooperative. Common grape varietals that they use are Trebbiano Romagnolo, Sangiovese, Pignoletto, Chardonnay, Merlot, Albana and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Aspri Spirits and Gruppo Cevico have introduced brand E’got to India with two blends – E’got Trebbiano Chardonnay Rubicone IGT and E’got Merlot Sangiovese Rubicone IGT. The name E’got has an interesting history, Francesco Paganelli, the export manager of Gruppo Cevico who was in Mumbai to introduce the wines had a tale to tell. In early days, wines were served in restaurants in sturdy glasses with the perfect measure of wine poured into them was called E’got.
Gruppo Cevico’s E’got are entry level wines, which are simple on the palate making them easy to drink and are from the Rubicone region around River Rubicon where the grapes are grown.
