Cocktail Classics for Sultry October
The evergreen classic cocktails have always been inspirations for us and this month we’ve taken 3 classic cocktails from the 1920s and given them a Hipcask twist! These cocktails are part of #BombayCocktailClub.
Old Monk, India’s favorite and cult rum brand can be quite versatile. One just needs to look beyond the cola partner it is doused with. We infused burnt butter flavor into the rum by a technique called fat washing to add a new dimension.
60 ml Old Monk infused with burnt butter
30 ml Apple juice
10 ml Cherry syrup
couple of drops of Bitters
Apple slice garnish
In a mixing glass pour in the infused Old Monk along with the other ingredients, top it up with ice and stir till chilled. Pour into a low ball glass. Garnish with a cherry and slice of apple.
The term Bees Knees is a slang from the early 20th century which meant ‘the best’ and considering the cocktail uses gin, we think it is the best. The honey simple syrup is just a mix of honey with simple syrup.
60 ml Gin
20 ml Lime juice
30 ml Honey simple syrup
4 Mint sprigs as garnish
Pour all the ingredients in cocktail shaker, fill it up with ice. Shake the closed shaker till the outside frosts. Pour the drink in a low ball glass and garnish with mint sprigs.
New York Sour
The pre-prohibition favorite Whiskey Sour gets a twist when it is topped with wine. We used an Indian Cabernet Merlot to make it unique. The floating deep red looks simply gorgeous atop the drink.
45 ml Bourbon
20 ml Lime juice
30 ml Simple syrup
20 ml Cabernet Merlot wine
Pour all ingredients except for the wine in a cocktail shaker, fill it with ice and shake till it is chilled. Pour it in a low ball glass. Now carefully pour the wine over the back of a spoon so it floats creating an interesting ombre look.
These cocktails are available whole of October 2014 at Woodside – All Day Bar & Eatery, Andheri as part of #BombayCocktailClub.
