Celebrate Harvest 2014
The Grape Escapade 2014, Goa
India’s beach capital, Goa, is hosting a wine festival – The Grape Escapade – over this weekend for 4 days from February 6-9, 2014 in Panjim. The Grape Escapade 2014 is geared to be larger than ever before where people over the 4 days will experience a blend of fine wine, lifestyle, haute cuisine and entertainment. More than 20 wineries are expected to be part of the festival while around 15 restaurants and catering companies will offer a range of gourmet experiences. Apart from food and wine, the festival will be host to local performers in Blues, Jazz, World Beat, as well as dance and other non-musical performances.
Grape Escapade started 9 years ago as wine festival where a tourist could savor wines and Goan cuisine; it slowly evolved into a lifestyle festival. This is the 10th edition of the festival and we spoke to the Nikhil Desai, Director of Department of Tourism, Government of Goa to know more about the event. “Over time we realized that consumption and acceptance of wine in the state is steadily increasing and we wanted to be catalysts in this change. There are several brands of wine, both Indian and international, which are being sold in Goa. Apart from this, port wine is a popular choice in the state and is also manufactured here. We thought that it would be a great idea to host a wine festival that brings wineries, oenophiles and other allied industries together,” he said.
Goa Tourism is the organizer of the festival, Desai added that the Grape Escape brand has become fully scalable and this year it will be at par with some of the best lifestyle festivals in the world. “All leading brands that have registered in Goa will be participating in this,” he mentioned.
