Best Selling Drinks in Mumbai
There are plenty of foodie lists doing the rounds. Top 10 places for street food, breakfast, seafood, fancy, not fancy, you name it and there is a list of ‘must-visits’ in the city. There are also lists which tell you which restaurants and bars you should head to for a good drink depending on the size of the pocket.
All of this got us thinking. It is great thing that Mumbai offers great place to eat, drink and be merry, but what are the drinks that are the best sellers and are enjoyed the most? We went to 14 stand alone restaurants, bars and hotels and asked them to share with us the most sold drinks at their bars. Here is what we found.
Best Selling Drinks
Beer – This one was a no brainer. Beer has been and continues to remain the most favored and convenient drinking choice for most. As the best selling beverage both draft and pints have played a crucial role in getting beer to the top slot. We also found that almost 50% of bar sales come from beers.
Cocktails – Cocktails are also quite popular, approximately 10-15% sales are from cocktails. They share the spot light with beer when it comes to best selling drinks. What kind of cocktails you might ask? Flavored Martinis and Margaritas are in vogue along with house special cocktails – our guess would be they are recommended to guests who can’t make up their minds.
Best Selling Spirits
And while there are beer lovers, spirits aficionados are also aplenty. Whisky and vodka share the top spot as the best selling spirit followed by rum. We have to mention here that we cannot be sure how these spirits are consumed; vodka we are sure is either with Red Bull or similar mixer and whiskey, we hope, is on rocks or with water. Ever favorite mixer with rum is cola.
Best Selling Shots
Want a quick high? Shots are the go-to drink. Turns out Kamikaze shots still remain the most popular, followed by B52 and its various permutation combinations. Lastly, its Jager Bombs.
Best Selling Cocktails
Martini is the clear winner, but mostly in its flavored variants followed by Long Island Iced Tea, Mojito and Cosmopolitan. This response did take us by surprise, since we expected Long Island Iced Tea and Mojito to find place in the leading position. One cocktail is a potent mix of 2 and more spirits and the other hits the right spot with the Indian sweet tooth. We suspect the flavored Martinis have upped the notch on their sweetness.
It will be very difficult to gauge which spirit brand does well but these brands kept showing up across all our responses – Grey Goose, Chivas Regal, Johnnie Walker Black Label, Bacardi and Glenfiddich.
Which of these are your favorite drinks? Or are you more out-of-the-box and experimental with your drinks? Share your answers with us in the comments.
