5 Wines for Halloween
It is Halloween today. While this is not a festival indigenous to India, in the last few years it is being celebrated with great gusto. And we are joining the band wagon with a list of wines which fit the spooky theme. Don’t worry they taste other worldly in a good way.
The Wolftrap Syrah
The inspiration for the name of this wine is the wilds of Franschhoek valley in South Africa which is still home to many indigenous animals. And although there has never been any evidence of wild animals in the region, The Wolftrap is a way to keep the legend of bygone era alive. The wine is a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Viognier. The wolf on the bottle sure looks the part.

Misterio Chardonnay
From the legendary Finca Flichman in Argentina comes the wine brand Misterio. Check out the mask on the label, it reminds of the South American civilizations (think Azteca, Incas and Mayans). The wine itself is a blend from different vineyards of the winery and aims at being as easy drinking yet sophisticated wine. We think it is a good fit for Halloween.

Bishop by Ben Glaetzer
Bring in some mythology into your Halloween celebrations with Bishop by Ben Glaetzer. The label is adorned by the symbol of Roman goddess Venus or Greek goddess Aphrodite. The wine, a Shiraz, however comes from Barossa Valley in Australia and is known for its blend of Shiraz fruits from 35 years old and 120 years old vines.

Ravenswood Old Vine Zinfandel Vintners Blend
They are all about ‘no wimpy wines’ and this US based winery describes the Zinfandel as big, bold and unapologetic. The logo of three ravens with their talons interlocked brings together quirk and gothic influences. The idea was born when owner Joel Peterson was single handed working moving crates of fruits with ravens’ cacophony as his only company.
Price: Rs 2350
Luna Mater
This wine by Cantina Fondida is named after the process of birth and genesis, made from indigenous Italian grapes and part of the Frascati DOC. The label is based on the works of a Roman artist Domenico Binachi. It is very clearly representative of the moon and the enigma around it. Plus, how can we have a wolf on the list but no moon.
