5 Kickass Long Island Iced Teas in Mumbai
Originally from New York, Long Island Iced Tea is perhaps the go-to drink for a quick buzz. That is also the reason the cocktail is much abused. There are times we think listing it on a bar menu is blasphemous. But when made well it is an exceptional cocktail as it is potent.
Long Island Iced Teas aren’t the most ingenious cocktails or very aesthetic for that matter, but Mumbai is very fascinated with them. Why do we say so? All year long, restaurants and bars are holding LIIT promotions – JamJar Diner, Social and currently Hard Rock Cafe has a LIIT festival on till end of the month and year – and bar menus are listing more and more variations, it is a good enough reason to reach that conclusion.
And since we aren’t the kinds to judge you for your cocktail preference, we’ve listed Mumbai’s standout and tastiest LIITs. While some stay true to the original recipe, others are spin-offs of the original versions.
Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
Electric LIIT at Social
The Longest Long Island Iced Tea is one of the earliest in the city to introduce massive test tubes filled with mix of 5 spirits topped up with Red Bull. The drink has a distinctive blue hue thanks to Blue Curacao that gives it an ‘electric’ edge. It is a drink you nurse all night long as you mingle with friendly faces and groove to the music.

Saat Rasta at Monkey Bar
A dangerous concoction which has 7 spirits including Absinthe, Jagermeister, Tequila and beer, amongst others. All that alcohol is balanced with ginger and coriander creating quite a mix. Served in a hefty mug, Saat Raasta is good enough for two people but you can also down it on your own.

Six Feet Under at Long & Short
Another tall test tube of a LIIT with a twist of Jagermeister and Absinthe. Ideally meant for one and to last quite a while, it also makes for a joyous communal cocktail. Don’t let the fact that it is a five-star hotel bar deter you, this LIIT is priced very competitively in a bar which aims to break away from the stiff-upper lipped vibe of hotel bars.

Long Island Iced Tea at JamJar Diner
This diner opened up with a lot of fanfare, particularly for its quirky interiors. The Long Island Iced Tea is a popular drink here. It has a very distinct flavor and has received mixed reactions, nonetheless it is still their best seller and efficacious.

Long Island Iced Tea at Nom Nom
Offering great value-for-money Asian fare, Nom Nom’s bar does a good job too. The quality of their LIIT will be a proof of that. The original recipe which the bartenders have mastered perfectly is a favorite, but they also have an extensive list of variations. We’ve also been told that the LIIT pairs very well with the California Roll.
