These kits are tapping into a niche where an urban Indian wants to be recognized as a ‘foodie’ but doesn’t have the time or inclination to be in the kitchen. These companies do all the hard work which many of us loathe, picking up groceries, cleaning and then prepping them for meals.
What’s more is the fact that recipes or dishes that these meal kit offer are not run-of-the-mill everyday affair but lean on the exotic side. A great way to impress a date, we say!

This is a brain child of IIT graduates, Nipun Katyal, Varun Jhawar and Manish Tirthani. Chef’s Basket specializes in 4 cuisines – Italy, Spain, Mexico and Morocco – and is available across India via Amazon and in Mumbai and Bangalore via local online retailers. Dishes include You can get a pasta dish with all sauces and condiments for Rs 69.
Siblings Chetan and Sneha Arya’s iChef gives you 6 new dishes to try every week. The menu offers mostly vegetarian fare to choose from but has flavors from different lands including, Thailand and Mexico. The price for a kit starts at Rs 350 and serves 2 people.
Burgundy Box; Mumbai
Started by Chef Ajay Chopra of MasterChef India fame along with Shabnam Mehra, Vivek Mehra and Sandeep K Singh, Burgundy Box is the latest entrant. An extensive menu offers everything from Egg Chettinad to Macaroni and Cheese. Prices for Burgundy Box kits start from Rs 240 (currently cash on delivery only) and the meal serves 2 people.
Haute Chef; Mumbai
Vishal Shah’s Haute Chef offers meals which cover Japanese ramen to Italian pastas. Haute Chef covers most of Mumbai with one meal serving 2 people. You will have to shell out minimum of Rs 200 for a kit.
Cookfresh, Delhi NCR
In the national capital, Cookfresh is offering lazy cooks an extensive menu which cover Kerala Chicken Stew to Chowder as well as desserts. Meals are priced at Rs 339 minimum and serve 2 people (excluding desserts). This project is spearheaded by two friends, Raghav Kohli and Anshul Narang.

Seven Sexy Dinners, Delhi NCR
From Cold Pasta Salad to Red Wine Risotto, Seven Sexy Dinners gives you a weekly menu to choose from. Starting price for dishes are Rs 250 and above for one person. Seven Sexy Dinners also has meal plans for the week where 3 dishes for 2 people per week starting at Rs 349 are delivered to your doorstep. Ram Wasan, the founder, has also taken this concept to Toronto, Canada.
Cook Gourmet, Delhi NCR
Delhi boys Sanny Chaudhary and Daman Singh Kohli started Cook Gourmet with meals priced at Rs 149 minimum per portion but you will have to order for at least 2 people, effectively increasing the price to Rs 298. Cuisine offerings range from Indian to Continental and the menu changes every week.
For My Belly, Delhi NCR
Get an entire meal from starters to desserts, even drinks like Mango Lassi and Eggnog (starting price at Rs 60). You also have the choice between a meal kit or get a ready meal delivered. Meals are priced at Rs 150 and caters for one person.
Inner Chef, Delhi NCR
Rajesh Sawhney, Uday Bansal, Heena Karia Thakkar and Rahul Samat came together to start Inner Chef in Delhi. The website offers both ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat options. Ready-to-cook kits start at Rs 200 while the latter is priced at Rs 190 minimum. Both these meal options serves only one person.
Bangalore based Chefkraft offers everything from salad to main course covering cuisines from Asia to Europe. You can choose a single portion of salads starting at Rs 175 but at the same time main course dishes feed 3-4 people costing an average of Rs 700-800. They do not deliver on Mondays.
You Just Cook; Bangalore
Bangalore boys, Suyesh Shankar and Hashi Kushalappa started YouJustCook.com in 2013. The website has segregated meal options as salads, international, Indian and Thai. The salad kits start at Rs 150 and serve 2 people.
IIT-Kharagpur alumni Mohit Vijay’s CookBoxes has a changing weekly menu allows you to alternate and try out newer dishes. These kits are priced at minimum of Rs 159 and either serve 2 or 4 people.
Chef Sutra; Bangalore
Apart from salads and meals, Rachita Arora’s Chef Sutra also offers cocktail kits for drinks like Rum Runner and Bloody Mary (without the alcohol though) for one and cost approximately Rs 100. Meals include Oriental salads, Indian and international main course and desserts.
